Title Bridges for Melbourne Docklands infrastructure
Author Noonan, J (Sinclair Knight Merz)
Ellis, T (Sinclair Knight Merz)
Abstract The creation of Melbourne Docklands first required the establishment of trunk infrastructure, including roads and bridges. This paper describes the new Bourke Street and Latrobe Street Bridges and the extension to the Little Collins Street subway, each of which crosses operating rail lines. The design and construction of these structures presented substantial challenges. In particular, the Bourke Street pedestrian bridge was constructed over the busy Spencer Street station and included lift, stair and escalator access to each of the platforms below. The paper describes the layout, design and construction of each crossing.
