Abstract There are few railway lines in the Sydney metropolitan area that could lay claim to an origin as unglamorous, an operating history as varied, or a future as promising, as the Botany Goods Line. Long neglected and never part of public consciousness, the line has undergone many changes over its 77 year life. This paper attempts to bring some of this history to life as well as give an insight into the recent upgrading projects.
